I registered my business, Mandy Berry Photography, in 2011, when my first child was only an infant. I thought I would have time to focus on my business, but I didn’t. I focused on my one baby and then had two more. At the time I wanted to come up with a logo for the business, something that was personal and meaningful. I also wanted to pay homage to my dad who was my inspiration and motivation for pursuing a creative career. I wanted his handwriting to be the name part in my business logo. He wasn’t a calligraphy artist, but he had artsy handwriting that he was able to modify. So he produced a full page of “Mandy Berry”s.
I picked one I liked and made it into something. His handwriting plus type written “photography” and a graphic that was inspired by Lucy’s eyelashes. I did like it, but I didn’t think it was professional enough.
Fast forward a decade. The kids are in school and I now have the time to focus on my business. I revisited the logo. I wasn’t completely happy with it. I still owed it to my dad to finish the logo and use it. (Back story- he passed away on St. Patricks Day in 2021). Now I needed to finish the logo. I wanted his handwriting as part of my business, so he could be meshed with my photography forever. So I went to a pro and had the logo finished. The graphic is a simple reference to my roots in photography- 35mm SLR film camera. It’s the first serious camera that I ever owned and that my father bought for me in high school. He and my grandfather were also photo enthusiasts. My sister is too. It's in our blood.
I will now splatter this everywhere. Business cards to come!
